Cold and rainy day in Sarajevo

Belgrade, Serbia, Europe

Today was pretty much a wasted day. It was cold and rainy in Sarajevo, and there wasn’t much I wanted to do in the city in the rain. I found out about a shuttle that I could get to Belgrade that wasn’t much more expensive than the regular bus, and they would pick me up and drop me off at the hostels I was staying at. To me, this was a much better option than trudging through the rain to get to the bus station and then figure out where my hostel is at the other end.

The only bad thing was that the first shuttle that was available was at 6pm. I spent the day in the hostel just chilling with Tobias and Suzanne. They were in no hurry to go out in the rain either. By the time the shuttle picked up everyone in Sarajevo and we started to drive out of the city, it was 7pm, and then it ended up being a seven hour drive. There were six of us on the ride and unfortunately it was dark for almost the entire ride.

We first left Sarajevo and went up into the mountains and I couldn’t believe how much snow there was. All the rain we were getting down in the city was snow up here, so it made for a pretty slow drive. There were a couple of nice Spanish guys on the bus who are living in Belgrade, so we exchanged numbers and might meet up for a drink tomorrow. That would be cool, but first and foremost, I just want to see the sun. I’m sick of all this rain!

I got to Hostel M at 2am and checked into my single room. There was an old man at reception, and by that I mean “sleeping on the couch in the lobby”. He spoke no english whatsoever, so that made it difficult to get the checkin done. And I really just want to go to bed. Since I only have one full day in Belgrade, I’m going to go on a walking tour of the city. Hopefully that will show me enough that I don’t feel like this ride was a waste of time!
