Chill day at Kuta Beach

Chill day at Kuta Beach

Tuban, Indonesia, Asia

Good news, I didn’t die in my sleep last night. I don’t know what that headache was all about, but it wasn’t cool. I felt fine this morning. I was meant to move out of my hotel today, and I was going to head up to Ubud until I called a few hotels only to find that they are all booked up. I decided that my better option was just to stay here for a few more nights and do a day trip to Ubud before I fly to Java on the 31st.

I spent today just wandering around Kuta and Legian beaches. It was a beautiful day and the beaches were packed. I am just finding the peddlers to be really annoying. You can’t go more than five feet without somebody asking if you want to rent a chair, or rent a surf board, or have a massage, or buy a drink… It is never ending! They’re not very pushy like they were in Egypt or Morocco, but they are just so annoying because it seems like there are a million of them, and they are all keen to ask me the same question! I decided to walk back along the waterfront instead of at the back of the beach in the shade, and it was so much more enjoyable. I wasn’t asked one question on my way back. Aaaaaaaahhhh 🙂

I went for another massage today, and I really think it’s the best possible way to spend $6. I’m going to try to get one every day while I’m here. I think it’ll help loosen up my shoulders after carrying these backpacks around the world. After dinner I went back to the hotel to have a shower and get ready to head back out. I grabbed a motorbike taxi into town, and found out first hand that they are insane! They always look pretty crazy when you’re walking down the sidewalk and they buzz by you at 80mph, weaving in and out of traffic and driving on the wrong side of the road. It’s a whole other thing when you’re on the back of one of those things holding on for dear life. The experience alone was well worth the $2.50 I paid the guy to drop me off at the beach.

I went down to Kuta Beach to watch the sunset over the water. Unfortunately it was a bit cloudy, so I didn’t get to watch the sun disappear into the horizon, but it was still a beautiful sunset. The beach was about five times busier at sunset than it was during the day. I guess people knew what they were looking for. After I took a few pictures and watched the sun finally set, I went back over to Hard Rock Cafe to meet my friend Andrea for dinner.

We met back in Alice Springs, and then again in Melbourne, and she’s just starting her Asian tour now. It was great to catch up about the things we’ve seen and done in the last month and a half since we saw each other. So we had a good blether and then went out and grabbed a beer before heading to our guesthouses. I’m hoping that tomorrow we can get a taxi up to Ubud for the day. The more people the merrier, because a 45 minute cab ride is probably not going to be cheap, not even here!
