Botanic Gardens and National Museum

Singapore, Singapore, Asia

Today I got to see the one thing that seems to be in every city in the world, and this one measured up very nicely. I made it to the Botanic Gardens today and walked around for a couple of hours. It was broken up into a lot of different parts, like a bonsai section, orchid section, rainforest, swan lake, etc. It was a beautiful park and meticulously well maintained. It was big enough that I could have spent a full day in there just walking around, but since it was so damn hot, I only last a couple of hours.

From there I went down Orchard Road to check out some of the camera shops in the Lucky Plaza center, but there was nothing that jumped out at me. I walked down from there to the Singapore National Museum which I was lucky enough to get into for free. From 6-8pm it’s free entry, and I am so glad I didn’t pay! It was a beautiful building, but one of the worst museums I have been to. The exhibits just didn’t interest me at all, so it ended up being a quick stop.

I went back to the Funan Digitalife Mall that I was at yesterday to buy a tripod that I’ve been contemplating for a while now. I got there and was happy to find out that I got their last one in stock! The Kathmandu one I had was ok, but just not strong enough to hold a camera like mine, and this one is much more stable. So I’m pretty happy with my only Sinaporean purchase.

I decided just to head back to the hostel at that point because I am totally exhausted. Jun was packing up his stuff at 7am to head off this morning, so between the early wake up call and the sweltering heat, I’m bushed! I’m back at the hostel now and going to call it an early night. It looks like I have the room to myself for the night, so I should be able to get a good night’s sleep without a problem. I’ll be well rested for my last full day in Singapore.
