Bike ride around Bariloche

Bariloche, Argentina, South America

I had an awesome day outside of Bariloche today! I got up and head breakfast at the hostel. It wasn’t much, just bread with jam and hot chocolate, but it was better than nothing. I went to the grocery store and picked up some fruit and a sandwich for lunch, and then headed down to the bus stop. I had to have a plastic bus card, but luckily they had one at the hostel I could use, so I just had to charge it with 20 pesos. I got the number 20 bus, and about a half hour later I was at my stop by Cerro Campanario.

It was just a few minutes walk down to Cordillera bike rentals and I picked up my bike. It was 180 pesos for the day ($13), and it was great! There’s a circuit that goes around some of the lakes and it is really beautiful. The whole ride was about 28km (19 miles). I stopped at the Hotel Llao Llao, a lagoon for lunch, climbed Cerro Llao Llao, and then around to Punto Panoramico.

It was a pretty difficult bike ride, with lots of hills. None of it was flat, it was steep uphills and downhills the whole way, which is exhausting. The ride was really beautiful though. Snow capped mountains in the background, turquoise blue water and bright flowers in the foreground. It really was stunning. I was exhausted by I got to the end of it, but it was well worth it.

I got the bus back into town and then spent the night chilling at the hostel with some of the new roommates in my dorm. I went out for dinner at a place called Manush and had a really good burger with a microbrewed honey beer. It was all delicious, and a perfect way to spend my last night in Bariloche. This is definitely a place I would come back to and spend at least a week here. Hopefully next time I won’t be so rushed.
