ANTARCTICA: Last full day on the ship

Drake Passage, Antarctica, Antarctica

Today was our second day on the ship, with nothing much to see or do. We had breakfast and then they called us up to the library by deck so we could settle our bills. We could pay by credit card, and everything was in US dollars, and it was all a very easy process.

We took a tour of the ship with Danny today and it was interesting to find out that this was NOT an old Russian spy ship. It was a Russian research ship. It turns out that Exodus will just tell consumers anything to get them to book a trip on this ship with them. No spy ship. No parkas. Lies! It was still cool to see a tour of the engine room and the bridge.

It seems like our ship slowed down to almost a crawl today. I’m guessing it’s just because if we went at full speed we would be back in Ushuaia today by noon! It was painful how slow we were going through the passage.

This afternoon we rounded Cape Horn, and it was the first time we’ve seen South America in over a week. I don’t know what I expected, but it wasn’t all that impressive. I went out the to deck and took a couple of pictures, and then went back to the bar to hang out with the gang.

We had dinner tonight and we stayed at the six person table so we didn’t have to bother with anyone else bothering us. We enjoyed our last dinner on the ship and then headed up to the bar to hang out with everyone for the last night. We also had to pack up our bags because they are picking up our bags first thing in the morning. It’s been so nice to be unpacked for nine days and not have to live out of my backpack. I’m going to have to get used to living out of my backpack again. Ugh…
