Another Day on Safari

Makana, South Africa, Africa
Pumba Private Game Reserve

We got up early again today for our morning safari drive and today we had one goal: to find a cheetah and a buffalo. Pumba definitely has the Big 5 (elephant, rhino, lion, cheetah, buffalo), so of course we want to make sure we see them while we are here. That is proving very difficult though. They don’t tag the animals here, so they don’t know exactly where any of them are. Justin has an idea of where some of them like to hang out, but that’s as far as it goes.

We saw a lot of zebras and giraffes, a few more elephants, a secretary bird (who cares about birds?), a black-backed jackal, and a white lion pride. The white lion pride was definitely the coolest thing we saw. It was a group of five lions that were relaxing on the side of and in the middle of the road.

We came back after the morning drive (not being able to find a cheetah or buffalo) and had breakfast again. And once again, I was really impressed with how good the food was. This place is awesome! We decided to just chill at the lodge and tried to appreciate exactly where we are and how lucky we are.

We went back out for our last afternoon safari drive and unfortunately it was just as unsuccessful as this morning’s. We didn’t manage to find a cheetah or buffalo on this trip either, but we did get to see a couple of giraffes fighting. It wasn’t as brutal as they sometimes can be, but it was still pretty cool to see. They hit each other with their necks. It’s very bizarre to see.

We came back to the lodge, had quite a few Southern Comfort and soda waters, and then enjoyed our last dinner. It was excellent! I’m really going to miss the food at this place. It reminds me of a cruise ship. No matter what meal it is, they go over the top.

After dinner we had to start packing our stuff because we will be leaving here tomorrow after our last safari drive and breakfast. We are having an early night so we are ready for our big day tomorrow. Bring on the cheetahs and buffalos!!!
